Sandwood Bay is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches of Europe. However, quite a long, arduous walk is ahead of you to reach it. You have to leave the car behind and tramp the 8 km. It will be worth your while...

Sandwood Bay Overview

Unusually hot today. Some time we leave the A838 towards Kinlochbervie.

Until meeting Loch Inchard.

Passing Achriesgill and Badcall...

... and reaching Kinlochbervie.

No doubt about this sign:

Sandwood

Most important: Wear solid shoes on this rocky path...

Didn't we tell you? You hardly will get along with bike - or buggy.

Rocks alternate with mud puddles now and then - just jump along....

... again and again we are passing some small lochs.

Somehow there is no end to that path...

Anyway, some time we do reach Sandwood Loch...

Sandwood Loch

One last bend and... There it is: Sandwood Bay beach.

Like a dream - clean beach, clear water and almost deserted

First of all: Into the water to cool down the feet.

It really was worth the effort. What a pity that we did not take along our swimming gear.

Here is the video:

Taking a rest in the shadow - the way back is waiting for us.

The way back goes uphill - we try to stay in the shadow.

Even the sheep keep to the shade today...

Back on the path. Lochs are glittering in the sunshine...

... the sheep appear somewhat worn out from the unusual warmth.

Back on the parking lot. In the distance Handa Island can be made out.

Back we go, passing Kinlochbervie...
